Spotting Foxes on Santa Cruz Island
Annually in Spring
Spend the day with Teranga Ranch on an educational adventure as we explore Santa Cruz Island, her foxy inhabitants, and her watery, cetacean filled surroundings! Learn the story of an animal that was brought back from the verge of extinction by a dedicated group of human volunteers.
We’ll meet in Ventura. As we cross over the channel to get to the island, and on our way back, we will be on the lookout for whales and dolphins. On the island we will experience the incredible, endemic island fox, scrub jay, monarchs and more!
The hiking is moderate (3 miles total? A bit of a hill at one spot….), we can take our time. Kids over 8 are welcome if they can handle the walking and being disconnected for the day.
It’s a picnic lunch, you can pack and bring your own. Dress in layers and wear comfortable walking/hiking shoes.

The California Living Museum is an amazing collection of native wildlife that came in through their wildlife hospital but could not be returned to the wild for whatever reason. It’s a little educational gem in Bakersfield!
