Santa Cruz Island: Island Foxes and Whales!

Date Saturday, June 8 2019
Cost $95

Spend the day with Teranga Ranch and So Cal Whale Watchers on an educational adventure as we explore Santa Cruz Island, her foxy inhabitants, and her watery, cetacean filled surroundings!

Learn the story of an animal that was brought back from the verge of extinction by a dedicated group of human volunteers. Learn about the whales that migrate up and down the CA coast.

As we cross over the channel to get to the island, and on our way back, we will be on the lookout for whales and dolphins. On the island we will experience the endemic island fox, scrub jay, monarchs and more!

The hiking is moderate (3 miles? A bit of a hill at one spot….), we can take our time. Kids over 8 are welcome if they can handle the walking and being disconnected for the day.

For the day on the island you should bring; A comfortable backpack, clothing layers, a poncho for rain just in case, lunch and snacks, (there is no food for sale on the island) water, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses.
You should wear comfortable shoes that are good for hiking in. A walking stick is always good too and of course a camera. They have predator proof boxes we can store any gear in if needed. If you think you may get sea sick while on the boat, I highly recommend taking a Dramamine/Bonine tablet the night before, the morning of and before we leave the island. Being seasick is no fun. Better safe than sorry.

We will take the 8am boat and return on the 5pm boat which brings us back to Ventura by 6pm. It is very important you arrive NO LATER than 7:30am to get signed in. The boat leaves promptly at 8am. There is plenty of free parking.

(If the weather is bad and the landing cancels the boat we won’t know till that morning. I’ll be calling the landing first thing to check. If we get canceled out by the landing we will discuss a different date for this trip. We have high hopes that we will have nice weather but it’s good to be prepared. Also, if we get canceled we’ll message everyone by 6am.)

It’s a picnic lunch, you can bring your own or purchase a box lunch. Dress in layers and wear comfortable walking/hiking shoes.

Payments can be made via PayPal (friends and family option, please- you are definitely our friends!): donations@terangaranch.org with the message Santa Cruz Island. You can also mail a check to Teranga Ranch P.O. Box 4222 Sunland CA 91041 Sorry, no refunds.
